Celebrating May 12 at EDAI

EDAÍ is a Dynamical Systems seminar jointly organized by PUC-Rio, UFF and UFRJ since 2008. EDAÍ is generally held on Fridays, with one Matinee and two Lectures. The Matinees present classical Dynamical Systems results that have not yet found their place in the introductory course syllabus, while the Lectures generally address recent research topics.

In this occasion we celebrate May12 day.

Donna Maria Gaetana Agnesi

The website https://may12.womeninmaths.org/ records events celebrating women in Mathematics from May 1st to June 15th. Why May 12th is the reference day? It is the birthday of Maryam Mirzakhani (1977-2017), the first woman to win the Fields Medal (in 2014). In this context, the tribute of the Mathematical Seminary of Brescia to one of the greatest women in math of the history, Maria Gaetana Agnesi (1718-1799), is a must. In her journey through languages, literature, philosophy, theology, science, and charity, the meeting with a mathematician from Brescia stands out.
