"Maryam, billiards and the magic wand", lecture given by Prof. Dr. Corinna Ulcigrai

Lecture given by Prof. Dr. Corinna Ulcigrai

Abstract:
Why mathematicians 'play' billiards? What do billiards and magic wands have to do with Maryam Mirzakhani, the first - and up to now the only - female mathematician who has been awarded the Fields medal (often known as the 'Nobel Prize' of mathematics)? In this talk, accessible to all Bachelor students, we will answer these questions and offer a glimpse of the beautiful mathematical work of Mirzakhani.

Deakin University - Women in Mathematics Day 2022

The School of Information Technology at Deakin University is running an event to celebrate the achievements and contributions of women everywhere who are active in the field of Mathematics. This is in honour of Maryam Mirzakhani, an Iranian mathematician and a Professor of Mathematics at Stanford University who is the first woman to win the Fields medal.

This is a great opportunity for fellow women in STEM to support each other. We would like to invite women academics who research in maths related fields to attend this event.

Potimaticas

This is part of the activities of the Project POTIMATICAS, where the high school students should elaborate videos of two sorts: (1) short videos with interesting mathematical problems; and (2) longer videos bringing the life and achievements of female Mathematicians.

Jornada SCM: Matemàtiques Catalanes

The Catalan Mathematical Society is organizing a session to celebrate Women Day in Mathematics.

There will be two activities in this session. The first one will be Guadalupe Gómez's talk, "Florence Nightingale: A Role Model in the Twenty-First Century," in which she will discuss the significance of this legendary figure.
