Film Day for Women in Mathematics: Inspiring Stories of Great Mathematicians

The event was organized by the Young Scientists Board of the Institute of Mathematics of NAS of Ukraine as the part of the May12 initiative.

Celebrate Women in Mathematics Day with us through an engaging film event. The program includes screenings about Sophie Germain and Maryam Mirzakhani, showcasing their groundbreaking work and inspiring future generations.

Lecture and Film Screening: Je suis Sophie Germain / I am Sophie Germain

On May 11, the Seminar for Mathematics and Music will host a special event at the Mathematical Institute of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (Room 301F, Kneza Mihaila 36/III), as part of the celebration of Women in Mathematics Day (May 12) and the national science outreach initiative May Month of Mathematics.

The programme will include a brief lecture on Sophie Germain delivered by Prof. Dr Vesna Todorčević and screening of the short film Je suis Sophie Germain / I am Sophie Germain, followed by.

As part of the May 12th Initiative, we invite you to a special screening of the short film “Je suis Sophie Germain”, presented in French with English subtitles. This event honors the 250th anniversary of Sophie Germain’s birth and highlights her remarkable contributions to mathematics.

Beyond the film, participants can enjoy an interactive quiz with exciting prizes, along with pizza and drinks in a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.

To celebrate the International Day of Women in Mathematics on the 12th of May, we are organizing a movie screening of a short movie Je suis Sophie Germain (with English subtitles), in honour of the 250th anniversary of Sophie Germain's birth on 1st of April 1776.

Celebrating Women's Day in 2.G with the screening of Secrets of the Surface: The Mathematical Vision of Maryam Mirzakhani

Students of the 2nd grade general gymnasium will mark the Women's Day in Mathematics by watching the film Secrets of the Surface: The Mathematical Vision of Maryam Mirzakhani in their regular mathematics class, there by giving great importance to women in mathematics education. After watching the film, the students together with the teacher will give their overview and vision of women in mathematics and why mathematics is such a powerful science.
